I was surprisingly at peace with the outcome of our call with the judge the previous day. I’m sure most people would have felt scared or nervous about ruining their career with a few short words, but I was okay with it. I knew I had money. I was one of the most successful attorneys in New York, apparently, and I had at least a superficial look at my bank account, but Mom and Leah seemed very concerned about money. They closely monitored everything I spent and took money out for themselves frequently. I was beginning to regret trusting them with my bank accounts.

The next morning, I was sitting at my computer, browsing through the Agent Provocateur website shopping for lingerie. It had been a long while since I'd purchased new lingerie, judging by the state of my lingerie drawer, and I wanted a little pick me up to spice things up for Griffin.

"You really shouldn't buy that. It's too expensive," Leah murmured into my ear from behind.

"You shouldn't. Fifteen hundred dollars for one bra?" Mom added to the complaint.

I snapped my laptop shut and shot up from the dining room chair.

"You know what? I'm tired of you two breathing down my neck and telling me what I can and can’t do with my own money."

"We’re just looking after you, sweetie,” my mom said as she reached for my hand.

"I don't care!" I pulled my hand away.

Leah gasped and my mom stood there with her mouth open.

"I may have lost my memory, temporarily, mind you, but I’m not two years old. I’m a grown woman and this is my money, my fiancé’s home, and I won’t have you bossing me around. I think it’s time for you two to leave and find your own place."

My mom’s mouth got wider and Leah just stood there in silence with wide eyes.

I didn't care. I was tired. I wasn’t a child who needed babysitting. Griffin came into the room, drawn out by the yelling.

"Please, tell them to leave," I directed him.

"Why? What’s going on?" Griffin asked.

"I just want them to leave!" I shouted, “I need my space. We need our space, and they’re smothering me.”

I couldn’t imagine that Griffin was pleased to have them there in his home, twenty-four seven, but he was too polite to ask them to leave under the circumstances and didn’t want to step on my toes, I’m sure, but enough was enough.

“If they don’t leave, I will. And staying at my place next door isn’t enough.”

Griffin tried to hold back a smile but it slipped out for a split second before he regained his composure and cleared his throat. He strode over to the table as he looked directly at my mom with his piercing gaze. “Well, you heard the lady. I hate to be rude, but if your presence here isn’t helping Juliet relax and heal, I’m going to have to ask you both to leave,” he said in a firm voice as he came up behind me and placed his strong hands on my shoulders.
